Sliding into Softball Season 2015-16

This spring softball season has been solid so far thanks to the team’s hard work of practicing for hours after school to improve their skills on the field. The practices consist of catching and throwing drills, batting practice, sliding skills, and base running to prepare for the two games each week.

In their past games, the softball team has played tough schools like Louisville, Immaculate Heart and Flintridge Sacred Heart. But no matter what the score is, the team never gives up and keeps their spirit high by singing songs and chants to cheer on their fellow teammates. Junior Genna Whitell describes the games as, “highly spirited, and everyone always has a smile on their faces.”

Recently in the April 28th game against Louisville, the team was down one player; so, senior team manager Julia Burgess stepped up to the plate and played remarkable in right field, catching the first out of the game!

More exciting news, this year’s softball team made Marymount history: they traveled to Angeles Stadium on April 26 to accept an award for being the #1 ranked small school with the highest GPA of girls’ softball teams! Senior Kaitlyn Greta and Coach Troy walked proudly on the field to be presented to the whole stadium with the award, and they were even shown on the Jumbo Cam.

The softball team recently celebrated the amazing leadership of senior captains Clare Burgess, Kate Wegleitner, and Kaitlyn Greta and senior team manager Julia Burgess. The team wore shirts to honor the seniors, and presented them with posters and flowers.

Good job, Sailors!
