Meet the Freshman Class Officers!

On Wednesday, October 9, the Marymount freshmen elected their class officers for

the 2013-2014 school year. All of the candidates’ speeches were original, determined

and entertaining. After the freshmen cast their votes, many were anxious to find out

the results. At the end of the day, we received the news that Ruby

Lightbourn, Kimberly Bleak, Bella Mendoza, and Valory Banashek had been elected as

freshmen class officers. For those who would like to get to know the girls, The Anchor

presents the exclusive profiles of our freshmen class officers.

Ruby Lightbourn, the newly elected freshmen class president, went to St. Paul the

Apostle School in Westwood before coming to Marymount. She enjoys playing

volleyball and shot put, reading, cracking jokes, and watching TV shows such as

Downtown Abbey and The White Queen. Her favorite color is green, and her favorite

book is “The Giver”. “My plan for this school year is to listen to everyone’s ideas and input

as much as I can,” Ruby says. “I also want to be a friend to all the freshmen so they

could feel comfortable to come up to me and give their thoughts and opinions about

everything.”

Next, we have Kimberly Bleak, the freshmen vice president. Before Marymount, she

attended Calvary Christian School in the Pacific Palisades. Some of her hobbies include

dancing, playing volleyball, going skiing or snowboarding, and running. Her favorite school

subjects are Biology and English. “My plan as the freshman class vice president is to

support the president. I think I have really good ideas that I would love to give to the

student council. I’m really excited to represent my grade!” Kimberly said.

One of the two class representatives is Bella Mendoza. She went to Saint Brendan

School in Hancock Park for elementary and middle school. She likes to paint, doodle,

sing, run, and dance. Her celebrity crushes are Chris Hemsworth, Zac Efron, and Dave

Franco. She likes to play many sports including cross-country, track & field, soccer, and

softball. “As a class representative, I plan on coming up with simple yet phenomenal

ideas that will be beneficial for everybody in our freshman class,” she said. “I would like

to achieve that by having an open mind to hearing what they have to say. I promised

that I would always voice everyone’s opinions without judgment or questions, and I plan

on fulfilling that as well.”

Last but not least, the other class representative is Valory Banashek, who attended

Christ the King School before coming to Marymount. She loves Justin Bieber,

photography, film, visual arts, biking, and watching Netflix. Her favorite school

subject is Early Global Studies. She is also the team manager of Marymount’s cross-

country team. “My goals are to work with Bella and the rest of the freshman council to

keep the freshman class happy and heard by making each decision with everyone’s

thoughts in mind. We want to enforce our big ideas and what we can do to make each

day at Marymount a little better and more enjoyable. Newbies or not, everyone’s opinion

counts, and that’s why we’re here: to vocalize your thoughts,” Valory said.
