The Imaginary Invalid: Marymount’s Comedic Fall Show

Valentina Povolo '16, Staff Writer

This fall, the Marymount Players put on four incredible performances of The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere.

The story follows hypochondriac Argon (Sophie Regan) as he struggles to pay off his medical bills by marrying his daughter Angelica (Charlotte Muth) to a notorious doctor. But, as Angelica reveals her hidden love for disguised music master Cleante (Annabelle Liljegren), the family situation becomes chaotic. Trying to get Argon to let his daughter marry the one she loves is a comedic journey audiences enjoyed every minute of.

Between this three act show, two interludes added mysterious and comical elements to the story. The first interlude, Punch and Judy, based off the old puppet show, represented a satire of Argon’s hypochondriac ways while the second interlude, the imaginary surgery, was performed using crazy instruments and doctors with long beaks, ultimately leading up to an unforgettable nightmare sequence.

The cast, crew, and production assistants did a phenomenal job of putting together an incredible play. It was witty, interesting, and a whole lot of fun to watch.

Great job to everyone and look out for the coming spring musical: Once Upon A Mattress.
