The second album by the Australian pop punk band, 5 Seconds of Summer was released on Oct. 23th 2015. Along with their singles, “Hey Everybody”, “Fly Away”, “She’s Kinda Hot”, “Money”, and “Jet Black Heart”, they released several other songs. Each song was released with characters through each of the band member’s instagram accounts.

Money – This single is one of the most upbeat songs on the album. It opens the album with the boys talking to each other then jumps right into the chorus. The whole song is very lively and fun: it’s one of the best party songs on the playlist.

She’s Kinda Hot – This is another single with a great tempo. The title, “She’s Kinda Hot”  doesn’t fully represent what this song is about: it illustrates the struggles artists, and people who are a little outside the mainstream, have with succeeding and pursuing their dreams. Listening to the lyrics helps one to realize that everything has a silver lining, and the guitar riffs give off a sense of never-ending spirit.

Permanent Vacation – “No motivation, Destination Permanent Vacation”, Relatable, no? This song is another party song on the album; through its fast tempo and great lyrics it can make anyone want to dance. The theme of the song reminds the newer generation to do what they want and not let the norm stop them. It is a good song to listen to when you’re stressed out and you want to escape from life.

Catch Fire – Do you need a great song to play on repeat? Here it is, the genre being a perfect medium between rock and ballad. It is easy to listen to this song in almost any occasion. The theme being conveyed is all about a boy apologizing for doing something and realizing he was wrong, this song is his attempt at fixing the past. Each boy’s solo hits the heart with an arrow that has caught fire (get it?).

Safety Pin-  Another upbeat song + tempo at beginning is upbeat + talks about a broken romance that they want to fix, and by doing so they will “safty pin the broken pieces back together”. It is a upbeat song with an underlying slow beat that works with the message of the song which is even though heartbreaks and bad stuff happens you will be okay.

Waste the Night – “ I don’t wanna say goodbye to another night and watch you walk away”, the chorus of the song talking all about how they want to live life to fullest. This song has a nice tempo but is not a great party song.

San Francisco- Despite having an interesting opening lyric, this is one of the best songs on the album. The tempo being slightly faster than others and the theme of wanting to go back to the better times is relatable to everyone. The solos throughout the song sound incredible and are matched so perfectly to the sound of the song.

This review does not include all the songs; there are so many more masterpieces on this album that everyone and anyone can and will love! This is a album for the history books!
