With our stomachs still recuperating from the annual food coma that Thanksgiving brings and the hectic Black Friday mall hauls that most of us are lucky to survive, that must only mean one thing! The Christmas season is upon us, so bring on the non-stop Christmas music on KOST 103.5, decorating the Christmas tree, and bringing out the warmer jackets and the ugly Christmas sweaters. What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than watching those traditional holiday movies that undoubtedly put you in the Christmas mood!

Binge watching has become second nature in our generation, so why would Christmas movies be any different? The top 10 Christmas movies to binge watch during this joyous season:

  1. Christmas Cupid

This holiday special is a modern spin of the classic story A Christmas Carol, where an overworked publicist is the modern version of Scrooge and continues to date for success, rather than for love. Once her ungrateful client dies, she comes back and shows her the ways of her misdoing (past, present and future) so that by Christmas she can change her ways. This is a classic ABC family romantic comedy that will put folks into the Christmas spirit, and put one’s life into perspective.

  1. Jingle All the Way

The next Christmas movie on my binge watch list is the classic holiday comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, who plays the typical workaholic dad who wants to make the holidays right for his wife and son by purchasing the most popular toy of the season. Even though it’s Christmas Eve, he had promised his wife he had already gotten this toy, and now he is rushing to every toy store in order to purchase this toy. This movie is a comedic way to kick of the holiday season, but at the heart of it all is the love a father has for his family.

  1. Scrooged

This holiday film is yet one of the most famous modern retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This is a comedy where the main character is a TV executive producer who forces his staff to work during Christmas Eve and doesn’t value the idea of family or what Christmas means to some. Over the course of one night he is visited by three ghosts and is again questioned about the mannerism in which he treats people, and if he can change or if his fate is already written. The movie is a family friendly movie that you can watch over and over again and have laughs with your family.

  1. The Holiday

If a romantic holiday movie is more your speed for your Christmas binge watch list, then this is the movie for you!! In this holiday special, two women switch apartments during the Christmas season following bad breakups. However, with the holiday season comes holiday romances for both but this realization that the romances must end as they have to return to their real lives at the end of the season. Not only is this movie cute, but you can watch it with anyone whether it be a boyfriend, group of girlfriends and feel grateful for what you have when you have it.

  1. Jack Frost

This holiday favorite has been on my “have to watch Christmas list” since I was five. Although the beginning starts off with the loss of the father in the family, with the help of a son’s love for his father, a little magic, and a lot of snow, the father comes back… as a snowman. He comes back and helps his son, as he repairs the time he had lost. This tale is a heartwarming tale that will bring the whole family together and put you in the Christmas mood of giving back.

  1. The Santa Clause

Without a doubt this holiday classic will always put a smile on your face and put you in the spirit to go ice skating and go shopping for your friends and family. Starring Tim Allen, he plays a father who doesn’t pay attention to his family, and his son is spending Christmas with him, and because of a series of events, then turns into Santa Claus. This classic transforms you into the child you were, who rushed down the stairs on Christmas morning. This holiday movie puts you into a mood where “Seeing isn’t believing, believing is seeing.” –The Santa Clause.

  1. A Christmas Story

This comedic Christmas movie follows a young Ralphie Parker as he goes through the motions of the Christmas season. With bullies and the trials of his parents, all he really wants for Christmas is a rifle gun, but this movie is relatable because it connects people to a sense of nostalgia. This is a must see for the Christmas season – it will bring love, laughter and a sense of family into your homes.

  1. Elf

Not that this movie needs an explanation, but with the comedic acting’s of one Will Ferrell your holiday cheer will go through the roof. Whether you connect with Buddy the Elf, Jovie, Walter, or Papa Elf, this movie brings Christmas cheer to the homes of many. This comedy like many traditional holiday classics provides nostalgia whether your 23 or 85, and it shows the heart of Christmas: family.

  1. Home Alone

If you have never witnessed the comedic wonders of a young Macaulay Culkin, then I highly recommend this movie for the binge watching season. Every child and adult relate to this movie because of its childish perspective. After being left home alone when his family travel to Paris, he celebrates at first and starts to do all the things he was never allowed to, but then when burglars try to take over his home, he has to decide how to protect his home. This comedic genius is an essential movie to binge watch in order to get in the Christmas season.

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life

This classic holiday movie is an old timer, that shows a real perspective of what life was and could be like. After a series of unfortunate events that played together, the main character George Bailey wishes he had never been born, and an angel shows him what life would have been if that had happened. Although there is a sense of truth behind many of the unfortunate events at the core the movie shows the true Christmas spirit and a sense of gratefulness and how it truly is a wonderful life.

Although these movies differ in genres, these are the top 10 binge worthy Christmas movies to watch to get you in the spirit. These movies all have a sense of home and love at their core which is what the true Christmas spirit is all about. Because at the heart of Christmas is family, love and laughter which is an important trait that is important to never forget.
