This Spring Season the Sailors competed in 3 different sports. Balancing school and spots, each Sailor has grown immensely both as a student an athlete during the season.

Softball

The Varsity softball team faced some difficult league and non-league games this season. At the start of the season they lost to Da Vinci High School 2-12, but the Sailors were not brought down by this loss. They continued to train consistently and, most importantly, bonded as a team. When their first league game against Notre Dame Academy came around, they easily won in a 21-1 victory! In the rest of their league games, the dedication the Sailors put into training and their teamwork truly shone. The Sailors were able to win 3 out of the 7 league games. Athletes Jillian D. ’24 and Amanda B. ’25 were named Athletes of the Week this season. Jillian aka “JD Martinez” is extremely skilled both defensively and at the bat. According to Varsity Softball Coach Troy Brown, Jillian is “batting a .722 with 13 hits, 16 RBIs, 5 home runs in 23 plate appearances.” Amanda is a very strong catcher and batter who always helps her teammates grow. Coach Troy Brown says that Amanda is “batting a .391 with 13 RBI’s and 23 at-bat appearances.” At the end of the season the Sailors traveled to LA Valley College to play in the CIF-SS Playoffs against Oakwood. The Sailors took on an impressive 27-4 win. In their next CIF-SS game, they unfortunately fell 15-29 to Leuzinger. Despite this loss, the Sailors still had an amazing season and truly grew together as a team this season.

Swimming

The Sailors trained both in and out of the pool to prepare for swim meets, doing difficult swim sets and dry land circuits. The Sailors started off with a strong 97-63 win in their first non-league meet of the season against Archer. At the Sailor’s Sunshine League meet against Notre Dame Academy, the Sailors also won with an impressive 117-44 win! The Sailors won most of the events, and many dropped time. Ana H. ’24 dropped 7 seconds in the 200 free, and Leila L. ’25 dropped 16 seconds in her 100 back. The Sailors faced off against the Marlborough Mustangs, who were very strong competition. All the Sailors swam their hardest and continued to drop time. Audrey B. ’25 dropped an impressive 3 seconds off of her 100 free time, and Isabella M. ’23, Audrey B. ’25, Elizabeth G. ’25, and Giulia D. ’23 also dropped 3 seconds off their 200 Medley relay. During the season, swimmers Talia L. ’24 and Eva C. ’23 were named Athlete of the week. Talia is extremely dedicated to the team and is always the first one to dive in to start the warm up. She has continuously dropped time in her events and is always cheering for her teammates during the meets. Eva was new to the swim team, and she has shown tremendous effort in her swimming. She has dropped over 50 seconds in her 200 free and continues to improve with every practice. The Sailors have improve immensely this season! Track and Field

What would the Track and Field team be without the amazing Sailor Athletes, Lasan, and….the delicious Lasan Bread?! In their first Mission League Meet against Harvard Westlake, the Sailors faced a tough matchup, but were able to take home some impressive wins. Sophia B. ’23 took 2nd in the 400m and India R. ’24 took 3rd in the 200m. Milla K. ’24 took 1st in Discus and Banou N. ’22 took 2nd! The Sailors took their first win of the season (81-37) in their next Mission League meet against Alemany. Kelly M. ’22 got 1st in the Triple Jump, Saskia S. ’24 got first in the high jump (jumping at an impressive 4’6), and Milla K. ’24 got 1st in shot put. Coach Lasan named Olivia W. ’24 and India R. ’24 Athlete of the Week. Olivia is extremely hardworking and is always looking to improve. Her hard work showed when she placed high in all her events at the Zamperini invitational. India has a dedicated work ethic and attitude, and demonstrates strong leadership skills when she leads the warmup drills. At the end of this season, we had to say goodbye to 5 senior athletes: Eva M., Kalea K., Reese M., Kelly M., and Banou N. We are sad to see them grow, but they each contributed positively to the Track and Field team this season!
