This fall, Marymount sports have never been bigger. There are over 40 people on the cross country team. Maisey Ostrom is a freshman on the varsity team, and is very grateful to represent Marymount. She is one of the fastest on the team, and yet this is only her first time doing cross country. Her favorite part about doing cross country is having the chance to socialize. She has met many new people and made many new friends. Maisey believes that one of her strengths is her mentality when it comes to running and that a weakness of hers is running harder courses, such as Pierce College. To her, Pierce College was pretty difficult. But she overcame this obstacle with the motivation from her teammates and coaches. Maisey said that her greatest accomplishment relating to cross country is placing 5th in the South Bay Twilight freshman race.

Cecily Rasmussen is a junior on the varsity golf team. She started to play about 3 years ago at the start of Covid, but her dad introduced her to golf when she was young. Her favorite thing about playing is getting the chance to socialize and meet people from other schools. She said that her greatest strengths are putting and driving, and her weaknesses are chipping around the green. The hardest thing about golf for Cece is that there is always room for improvement in any shot, you can always get better. She said that your score can always be lower, and there is no perfect shot in golf. But her last shot is what motivates her the most, because she always aims to beat her last shot. One of the worst golf experiences she’s had was when she got a double bogey on par 4, but she rebounded when she got a birdie on par 5 on the next hole. Her greatest accomplishment this season was getting a birdie in a tournament. She is most proud of being able to play golf with her dad. She said that they have so much fun playing together, and she loves having the opportunity to play with him.

Lucy Walbridge is one of the two freshmen on the varsity tennis team. To Lucy, her greatest accomplishment is making the varsity team. She has had a lot of experience because she has been playing tennis for about 9 years. She said that it is really fun to get to learn and improve her skills with help from the older girls on the team. She says that her strength is her consistency when hitting the ball, but her weakness is her backhand, which isn’t as strong as her other strokes. The hardest thing about playing for her is trying to hit the ball really hard because when she does, she feels like her consistency goes down. She is motivated by her competitiveness and urge to win. Her peers and coach are also great motivations.

Annika Anderson is a junior on the varsity volleyball team. She has been playing club volleyball since 7th grade. She said that her favorite thing about volleyball is the team aspect and the strategic side of volleyball. She loves that being on a volleyball team opens doors to making friends and becoming closer to them. The strategic side of volleyball that she loves is learning about different plays and strategies. The hardest thing for her is breaking habits. It is very common for players to develop a bad habit in their form that they have to break out of. Annika stated that it is very easy to just keep the bad habits, but it’s hard to make the change and stick with it. When she played Mira Costa she missed her serve. After that, she worked harder on her serve so that she became more consistent with it. She said that her greatest strength is her commitment. She is always conditioning over the summer and she goes to every practice she can. One weakness that she thinks she needs to work on is not overthinking about what she is doing wrong so that she doesn’t limit her mindset. She reminds herself to focus on staying connected with her team and encouraging them. Her greatest motivations are gratitude. She always reminds herself how grateful she is for everything she has and it helps her stay strong and keep going. She also said that to her, discipline is just as important as motivation, because discipline helps you commit to improving when you lack motivation. Annika is most proud of her progress in volleyball. Her hard work and dedication in each season have paid off and helped her exceed to the next level.
