Marymount sports are in full force as we are in the season of spring, consisting of Softball, Track and Field, and Swim! They are fun, exciting, and most importantly, a way to bond with other students! Though, the stakes are higher than ever since coming back from the pandemic, where sports and other activities were put on hold. That is why it is extra important to stay healthy during your sports season. Here are 5 tips from our own athletic trainer, Amanda, on how to stay healthy during sports!

  1. SLEEP!!

  • At least 7 hours of undisturbed sleep every night.
  • Wake up at the same time, sleep at the same time, and try to get up immediately in the morning and start your body.
  • No screens 1 hour before bed to allow for better sleep.

  1. RECOVERY

  • Allow yourself time away from your sports at least 1 day a week.
  •  Nothing involved with sports, just a day to allow your body to recover.
  1. HYDRATION + NUTRITION

  • Drinking enough water and including electrolytes during, after, and before play.
  • Eat at least 2000 calories a day to grow, recover, and have enough fuel to practice/play.

  1. STRETCH

  • Not just the stretches you do with the team but stretching on your own.
  • As an elite athlete, stretching needs to be done daily for at least 20-30 mins.

  • Advocate for your health and speak up if something is wrong.17
