Westchester
Bus Driver: Laporshe
Bus Number: 180
Time driving for Marymount: the beginning of the school year 2017
Laporshe, being one of the newest members of the Marymount community, fits right in with her high-spirited, easy-going attitude. Although she only began driving for Marymount this year, she informed me that she has driven for a total of six years prior to driving for Marymount. Laporshe drives for Marymount full time, but when she can, she drives for other smaller trips as well. Although she enjoys her route for Marymount, she looks forward to the field trips as they are a new and different adventure. When asked what her favorite thing about driving for Marymount was so far, she replied, “I like how respectful the girls and their parents are.”

Bus Driver: Ms. West
Bus Number: 178
Time Driving for Marymount: 1 year
Ms. West’s warm welcomes of “hey sweetheart” and “hi honey” comfort students as they step onto her bus after a long day at school. As interviewing Ms. West, I learned that she has been a bus driver for about twelve years. She mentioned that one challenge she faces as the driver of the furthest bus route for Marymount is arriving back in time for the late bus. She notes, “the traffic is crazy, you know LA traffic is horrendous.” Being asked what her favorite part about being a bus driver was she responded by saying, “talking to you guys, you guys crack me! Just telling me about your school day is always fun because I understand, I know the struggle that comes from studying, writing papers, putting long hours in, homework and all that good stuff.”
