Over the summer, multiple Marymount students were given the special privilege to participate in various internships. Through their experiences, they were able to expand their knowledge in a special field of interest and work closely with their mentors to pursue their potential passions.

Noel Ermer ‘19 was given the special privilege to work at USC SHINE with her mentor, Stephanie Gee. Throughout the summer, Noel learned how to conduct scientific laboratory research for the first time. Noel has always had a strong interest in the STEM field; she believes that she was truly able to strengthen her passion this summer. During this internship, she discovered how to draw her own hypothesis and design and conduct her own experiments using other scientists’ findings. After speaking to Noel, she said, “It was so cool to apply the knowledge I learned in the classroom in a real-world scenario!” This internship has truly opened her eyes to the different career pathways in this field and affirmed her passion for researching. Noel hopes to apply the skills that she has learned from this internship during her junior year at Marymount, in addition to promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle with her friends!

Isabella Kiene ‘19, along with several other students, worked at the Jeffrey Foundation and spent her summer with toddlers who had mental disabilities. Although there were several programs for different ages, she mainly worked closely with the school-age kids. In the morning, she helped entertain the kids through games and reading books, while in the afternoon, they would spend time playing outside. Reflecting upon this experience, Isabella says, “It was a great way to learn about the different dimensions of special needs kids and all kids for that matter.” In addition to the kids, who grew a lot from this internship, Isabella also believes that she picked up some valuable pearls of wisdom during her time at the Jeffrey Foundation. She learned how to be more patient, in addition to how to deal appropriately with kids when they are angry. Isabella highly recommends this internship to any Marymount student who enjoys spending time with children.

If you’re looking to discover your passion and learn more about yourself as an individual, make sure to apply for the Marymount Internships next year!
