There are many websites and stores that sell styling pins; however, believe it or not, you can make your own personalized pins with household items!

What You’ll Need:

  • Shrink film or plastic containers/lids
  • Black sharpies
  • Colored sharpies
  • Aluminum foil
  • A hot glue gun
  • Safety pins

Step-by-Step Guide for Making Your Own Pins

  1. Brainstorm the qualities and traits that you love about yourself.
  2. Think about the the passions and activities that you like, and perhaps set you apart from others.
  3. Visualize symbols, images, or quotes that embody your ideas as pins on your blazer.
  4. With a black sharpie, sketch your symbols onto shrink film or plastic. Keep in mind that they will shrink substantially. If using plastic containers, cut a piece for the sketch.
  5. Use a variety of different colors to make your pins stand out and color the sketches with permanent markers or sharpies.
  6. Cut out your pins!
  7. Preheat an oven to 325 degrees and wait for 10 minutes.
  8. Place your film/plastic pins onto a tray with aluminum foil and place it in the oven.
  9. “Bake” your pins for 1-2 minutes.
  10. Remove the tray from the oven and compress your pins with a cold glass to cool them down.
  11. With a hot glue gun, attach safety pins to the back of your pins.
