As 2023 approaches, everyone begins to wonder what the New Year has in store for them. To start fresh, most people have a resolution in mind whether it’s a fitness goal, trying something new, or maturing and growing as a person. This past month I’ve inquired around campus in order to uncover the New Year’s Resolutions of Marymount’s beloved teachers.

First, heading to the history department, I asked Mr. Beckner his resolution for 2023. His first resolution is to finally take little Finn camping for the first time. HOW CUTE!! However…his second resolution revealed some tensions within the history department. Mr. Beckner exposed his diabolical plan “to overthrow Mr. Baker and seize power in the history department, usurping the tyrannical Justin Baker.” Immediately after uncovering Mr. Beckner’s secret hatred for Mr. Baker, I just had to stop by B306 to hear Mr. Baker’s New Year’s Resolution. And to no surprise, he told me that his resolution was “to be a more vigilant leader in stamping out any resistance to his throne.” Before I knew it, Mr. Beckner burst into the classroom ready to battle for the throne. Here are some never seen before pictures of the fight:

I think this fight made Marymount HISTORY (haha)!

After witnessing such an intense fight, I went over to Ms. DeMuro’s office for some peace. There, she told me that her resolution for 2023 was to “embrace the present moment.” I bet we could all benefit from that. Great idea, Ms. DeMuro!

Then I went over to the Religious Studies Department where I found Mrs. Arocho-Lapierre, who told me that in the New Year she’d like “to be more intentional with her relationships, especially spending more time with friends and checking up on them more often.” Well-said! With the holidays approaching, I think everyone could use some quality time with their friends, especially after cram week and finals!

Next, I made my way to the English office where Ms. Femenella informed me that her goal for the New Year is to give back more, also encouraging her family to give back more as well. She also wants to volunteer to walk dogs as well! Ms. Bright told me that her New Year’s resolution is “to give students their papers back more promptly.” As an AP-Langer, I think I might be happier just never getting my papers back…

Finally, I hunted down Mr. Wang and Dr. Gonzalez from the Science Department. Mr. Wang told me that he definitely wants to be more organized, especially with the new labs and classrooms in order to make the best use of the space so that he can teach science as efficiently as possible. Mr. Wang also included a list of hobbies he wanted to get back into, like running, playing the bass guitar again, and reading more. And to make time for these hobbies he also wants to start playing video games less. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a super productive year filled with fun new hobbies! Speaking of new hobbies, Dr. Gonzalez’s goal for 2023 is to train her new puppy to give her hugs and make her coffee. I wish I had a dog that could do that! Sounds adorable!!

Best of luck to all these teachers in fulfilling their goals for this fresh New Year!
