Catching up with Ms. Lebenzon

Ms. Lebenzon: to those who had her as a teacher, this name signifies happiness and tea. The former World History and AP European History teacher at Marymount, Ms. Lebenzon is a fascinating woman of many talents. Not only is she a wonderful teacher, but also a talented actress. Perhaps one of the things that her students in her World History classes will remember the most is the activity she designed (using her acting skills) so that we could empathize with the Russian people during the purges (11th and 12th graders, you know what I’m talking about).

Another notable thing about Ms. L is her fiery passion for tea: a love unmatched by any other tea drinker in the history of the universe. She even shared her love of tea with students, often serving tea during Socratic seminars or special classes.

Due to her husband’s job, Ms. Lebenzon often travels to and from England for about a year at a time. At the beginning of last year, she jokingly described herself to her period 1 World History class as “the nightmare that keeps coming back” (she is not a nightmare in the slightest). At the end of this year, Ms. Lebenzon planned on going to England, but then her plans changed, so she has remained in LA but has left Marymount for this year. She currently teaches middle school students at St. Mark’s School in Venice, and describes her experience teaching middle school as “a challenge” but the good kind of challenge. Even though she is happy at her new school, she says she misses us all, and I am sure we all miss her right back!
