Since freshman year, junior Sophie Regan has taken the Performing Arts at Marymount by storm. She has performed in four Marymount Players plays and musicals and has also assistant directed one play. Sophie has been participating in DTASC festivals since the spring semester in 2013 and currently plays a variety of instruments in the Marymount Orchestra. I had the opportunity to ask her a couple questions regarding the various arts programs at Marymount, and she did not disappoint to respond with her Marymount renowned humor.

What are you currently working on in the arts now that DTASC and Picnic at Hanging Rock are over?

“Playing music.”

How do you think the creation of CAP has influenced the arts at Marymount?

“That’s a really good question, Laurel. I personally feel like CAP has created an interesting connection between the performing arts disciplines that is certainly unique. I think that an interesting effect CAP has had on the community is the common identity as a CAP student. [CAP] takes us out of our smaller individual communities within choir or orchestra or what have you and introduces us to our peers with whom we might otherwise interact rarely. With the Tuesday meetings and whatnot, we all sit in a circle and, after a while, you start to notice who else is in that circle, and you start to ask them to sign you in so you don’t have to go to the meetings. It creates a sense of camaraderie and respect that was not present before.”

What do you think the letters of CAP stand for?

“Community Acquired Pneumonia immediately springs to mind, but I would say that CAP really stands for Carrots And Peas. Just kidding! Haha. No but seriously, maybe cats and parties.”

A special thanks to Sophie Regan for this spectacular interview.
