How to Save a Life: LA Fire Dept. Teaches Students CPR

St. John’s Hospital visited Marymount High School a few weeks ago and everyone learned something. In the past CPR has been taught to include compressions and breaths, but during the St. John’s Hospital visit, the Marymount students were taught that compressions are very effective and it is recommended to perform hands-only or “sidewalk” CPR because it decreases chances of putting the other person in danger.

Even if some Marymount girls already knew how to perform CPR, their visit was beneficial because members of St. John’s hospital shared survivor stories of people who survived thanks to hands only CPR. The hospital was generous enough to bring more than 100 mannequins for Marymount students to use to practice CPR, which a enabled hands on experience. With more than 400 people, including teachers educated in Hands Only CPR at Marymount, hopefully everyone will go on to teach their family members in case of an emergency.
