Reflection on the Arts at Marymount

Marymount: the home of confident girls, ethical leaders, global advocates — and stellar performing artists. Every Tuesday and Thursday, singers, dancers, actors, and instrumentalists gather to rehearse and do what they love. Walk into L-3 during any PREPS period, and expect to find the choir mastering the tricky art of half-step intervals and four-part harmonies. Meanwhile, L-2 bursts with the vibes of guitars, oboes, flutes and drums, all eagerly combining to create musical magic. The DTASC-ers and Players never fail to mix fun with performance perfection. Dedicating my preps periods, daily hours after school, and Saturdays to choir, the Players, and DTASC rehearsals may seem time-consuming, especially with AP classes and homework, but my involvement with the arts has been anything but overwhelming. Where else would I be able to de-stress, feel unembarrassed to sing my heart out or take the stage? There’s a special kind of comfort and commitment that comes with immersing yourself in your passion- whether it be performing or visual arts, athletics, MUN, Robotics, or anything! The performing arts at Marymount have given me so much confidence and opportunities; moreover, the Conservatory Arts Program is open to anyone looking for a creative, collaborative, and fun space for learning.
