Not really the horror movie type? Not a fan of the thrilling yet terrifying suspense? Don’t worryhere are five of the most iconic and binge-worthy Halloween-themed movies of all time that will get you into that Halloween spirit without the gore and startling jump scares.

1. Casper

Nothing is better than Casper, the friendly ghost, himself! This classic Halloween comedy tells the story of Dr. James Harvey, a ghost therapist, and his daughter, Kat, as they encounter one friendly yet lonely ghost and his three reckless, ghostly uncles in a house that is said to have paranormal activity. Casper quickly tries to befriend the two while his uncles try to scare them away. Kat and Casper’s friendship soon escalates when Casper starts to show his affection for Kat that he has felt for her ever since he first saw her. This movie will take you on one long ride of different emotions and have its own share of surprises along the way, but it is well-assured that this Halloween-themed movie will never disappoint.

2. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

If you haven’t seen E.T., then you’re missing out on one of the most legendary movies of all time. A creature from another world named E.T. befriends a human boy named Elliot. There is a psychic connection between the two but affects both of them in a strange way: they start to switch personalities. Soon, problems arise, such as government officials showing up at Elliot’s front door, and the effects from Elliot and E.T.’s link start to complicate.

3. The Halloweentown Series

This iconic Disney Original Series, consisting of four movies, follows of the story of Marnie Piper who finds herself in a strange magical world called Halloweentown. There, she finds witches, werewolves, goblins, ghosts, and everything else you can think of when Halloween comes in mind! Of course, evils appear in the town and enemies are made. It is up to Marnie and the rest of her family and friends to stop the enemy and save Halloweentown. The series’ order is as follows:

Halloweentown

Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge

Halloweentown High

Return to Halloweentown

4. Monster House

This may be the “scariest” movie on the list due to the number of jump scares and its eerie vibe throughout the movie; however, I don’t think this would be considered a horror film. Monster House is set in a nice, quiet neighborhood, where three teens, DJ, Chowder, and Jenny, start to investigate the one, dark, and creepy house of their neighborhood. The house is owned by an old man who would not let one living soul on his property. What they discover was nothing they would ever be able to prepare for.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This list wouldn’t be a Halloween-themed movie list if there weren’t at least one Tim Burton film. Tim Burton is famously known for his eerie yet eccentric films, such as Corpse Bride and Beetlejuice. Now, it may only be October, but there’s no harm getting into that Halloween mood with a little Christmas on the side. Jack Skellington will take you on one exciting journey going from a dark and scary Halloween world to a world of presents, snow, and a man named Santa Claus. Jack finds this new world just before the big day and decides to take over Santa and the elves’ job of wrapping presents and giving it to the children all over the world; however, Jack and his friends have their own little twist to things.

Hopefully, this list was found helpful for those who aren’t one to go for the horror films, especially during this time of year. Have fun watching!
