Marymount’s Young Alumni: Once a Sailor, Always a Sailor

Advice and reflections from Monica Kozlowski ’07 & Kristen Kozlowksi ’05

Monica ’07 and Kristin Kozlowski ’05 are two sisters and former Sailors who both spent four years at Marymount High School in California. They both have a great story to share about their journey at Marymount and offer great advice to future Sailors.

How did you know that Marymount was the school for you?

We knew that Marymount was the right fit for us because of the welcoming students, staff, and faculty that we met at Open House. The students seemed to really enjoy being at Marymount and all had great experiences at the school. The beautiful campus and the many clubs, sports, and other opportunities that were offered to us blew us away. The small class size and the true emphasis of each individual girl truly made Marymount a school unlike any other.

How has Marymount impacted your life?

Marymount has definitely impacted our lives by preparing us academically for college and helped us form a community with lifelong friends. The school also made us more conscious about women’s issues and taught us the values and importance of equality. We will never forget the great education we received at Marymount High School.

What are your favorite memories from Marymount?

One of our favorite memories from Marymount included all the amazing and intelligent teachers and funny times we had with them. We remember one time when some seniors at the time were watching the Disney movie Aladdin in the Senior Den. The song “A Whole New World” starts to play just as Mr. Flinn, an English teacher of Marymount at the time, stops in the den and sings along. It was a hilarious experience that we will never forget. Another memory that we consider one of our favorites was experiencing Kairos during senior year. It was a time that was very meaningful and a great way to bond with the other Marymount girls before graduation.

Lastly, do you have any advice for new sailors at Marymount?

The best advice we can give the future sailors is to make the best of your experience at Marymount. Take advantage of all the clubs and sports that are offered to you and find new experiences. Create new bonds and friendships with the girls you get to know at Marymount and make memories on your journey together. High school doesn’t last forever, so make the most of your unforgettable four years at Marymount High School.
