Marymount Varsity volleyball is victorious against Mira Costa!

On Tuesday, September 30th, Pavilion held one of the most renowned rivalries in Marymount volleyball history: the Sailors versus the Mira Costa Mustangs. Having played Mira Costa earlier this season in a scrimmage, the Sailors remained victorious in a 3-2 win. However, the Mustangs wanted their revenge and wanted it to occur on Marymount’s home court. The intensity could be felt in the air. The spectators stood on opposite ends of the bleachers chanting cheer after cheer, each one louder than the last. The decibel reading must have topped the scale.

Even from the beginning of set one, you could tell that this match would be a good one. Each team gained a point for each the opposing team scored. Despite the close game, Marymount broke away, winning the first set 25-22. However, the match was not yet over. The sets went back and forth, as the Mustangs took the second set, the sailors took the third, and the Mustangs took the fourth, leading into the fifth and final set.

However Marymount was prepared, and the Sailors remained calm, consistent, and aggressive in the fifth. Their efforts lead Marymount to victory with a final score of 15-13! With this big win, the Varsity team heads into a new league, The Mission League, which will be more difficult and arduous. Every match will be a challenge, however the Sailors are ready and determined to surpass their competitors. You are guaranteed a fun night if you watch a league game, so come and support your Sailors this month!
