Marymount Welcomes New Café

Marymount Welcomes New Café

As much as the masses were ready to move on from the monotony of “Spanish Rice” and “Penne in Pink Sauce,” I believe I can vouch for most in being slightly wary of a new dining program. After all, is it not easier to deal with the comfortable “known” than the ominous foreboding of something new? Change is scary.

With the demolition of the old Student Lounge and some dramatic renovations, came the birth of SAGE Dining at Marymount. Founded in 1990, SAGE has grown to a national company with over 200 clients; their emphases include “Variety, Balance, & Moderation.”

At the start of the year, there were some issues with the long wait. The ravenous students grew impatient as they baked under the sun in a queue that stretched halfway to Pavilion. However, the SAGE team helped alleviate the problem by setting up another main course station in the Dining Hall, and students learned to stagger when they got their lunches. Fortunately, students found the wait rewarding.

Laurel Wholihan ’16 vouches that “although sometimes the lines are very long, I find the food to be delicious and a nice change of pace. I particularly like the fresh vegetables and fruits available at the salad bar.”

In addition to the salad bar, students can choose from soup options, make-your-own sandwiches, main dishes, and copious sides. For our vegetarian populace, there are always several options without meat. In the mornings and afternoons, one can purchase breakfast, snacks, and beverages.

Despite a few complaints regarding long lines, Panini presses, waffle makers, and coffee, the general consensus seems to be positive. So, raise your plastic cups of spa water in welcome of our new café!
