2024 Grammy Nominations: What to Expect for the 2024 Grammys

The Recording Academy has announced the nominees for the 2024 Grammys, which will take place on February 4, 2024, in Los Angeles. SZA is the leading nominee with 9 nominations, followed by Phoebe Bridgers and Victoria Monét with 7 nominations each.

Many predicted that Taylor Swift and SZA would be the top nominees this year due to their record-breaking albums, “Midnights” and “SOS.” Although Swift only received 6 nominations this year, she still broke a record for the most Song of the Year nominations with a total of 7 nominations. Swift has never been awarded Song of the Year throughout her history as a musician. “Barbie: The Album” has eleven nominations in various categories, marking an impressive success.

Song of the Year is commonly mixed up with Record of the Year, in which Song of the Year is about the lyrics and songwriting while Record of the Year focuses on engineering and song production. The following songs were nominated for Song of the Year: “A&W” by Lana Del Rey, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift, “Butterfly” by Jon Batiste, “Dance The Night” by Dua Lipa, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, “Kill Bill” by SZA, “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo, and “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish. For Record of the Year, “Flowers,” “What Was I Made For?,” “Vampire,” “Flowers,” “Anti-Hero,” and “Kill Bill” was added to this list of nominees: “Worship” by Jon Batiste, “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius, and “On My Mama” by Victoria Monét.

Best New Artist is always a fun category because it introduces new artists for everyone to listen to. This year, the nominees are Gracie Abrams, Fred again, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monét, and The War And Treaty. While it is difficult to predict which of the following artists will win, some have predicted that Noah Kahan, Ice Spice, and Victoria Monét may take the award home.

Album of the Year could be considered one of the highest awards an artist can receive at the Grammys. This year, the albums that are nominated are: “World Music Radio” by Jon Batiste, “the record” by boygenius, “Endless Summer Vacation” by Miley Cyrus, “Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” by Lana Del Rey, “The Age of Pleasure” by Janelle Monáe, “GUTS” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Midnights” by Taylor Swift, and “SOS” by SZA. All of these albums are great pieces of music that have received high ratings.

In addition, some new categories were announced this year, including Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording. There have also been some changes to the four main categories (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist): the Recording Academy has chosen 8 nominees instead of 10.

Overall, the 64th Grammy’s is anticipated as an interesting event with many talented competitors in the main categories.
