Horror movie fanatics excitedly anticipate the arrival of an array of spine-chilling new films to sink their teeth into. John Krayer, played by Tobin Bell, returns to the big screen for the eleventh installment, in 20 years, of the long-running Saw franchise. The horror franchise is known for the Jigsaw Killer, a psychotic serial murderer who tests his victims’ will to survive by putting them through a series of sadistic games. Directed by Kevin Greutert, the next movie in this series is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 27th. Additionally, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 horror hit Smile, which earned more than $217 million at the global box office, is projected to hit theaters on October 18th. Not much is known about the sequel, however, director Parker Finn commented, “There certainly are stones that I left unturned by design,” suggesting that the next installment of the Smile franchise will dig deeper into its fictional world and address some unanswered questions.

Adding to the excitement, new additions to the beloved Disney franchise are expected in 2024 as well. Leading the Disney department is a sequel to the immensely successful 2015 film Inside Out, which raked in a staggering $858.8 million at the box office. This sequel expands Inside Out past its previous plot and explores teenage Riley’s evolving emotions, with the addition of new characters such as Anxiety, played by Maya Hawke, and Embarrassment. Director Kelsey Mann comments on the promising film, stating, “This is a gold mine for everything we love at Pixar… It’s got heart. It’s got emotion. It’s got humor.” Another Disney film coming our way in 2024 is a prequel to one of Disney’s biggest hits, The Lion King, a 1994 film directed by Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers that earned $968.4 million at the box office. This prequel, titled Mufasa: The Lion King, will explore the origin story of Simba’s father, Mufasa, centering on his relationship with his brother, Scar. The younger versions of Mufasa and Scar will be voiced by Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Decade-long fans of the iconic film are eager to experience the expansion of this plot and dive deeper into the backstory of such a beloved character.
