The Emmys this year was hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, a father-son Canadian comedic duo. Steven Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez from the show, Only Murders in the Building, presented the first award of the evening, giving the award show a welcoming start with their chemistry on stage.
This year, the show Shōgun got eighteen Emmy awards and now holds a new record for most wins for a single season. This is extremely impressive especially since this show has only released ten episodes in total. Shōgun also became the first majority non-English language series to win Outstanding Best Drama. Shōgun received the highest number of nominations with a remarkable twenty-five nominations. As of 2024, the show with the highest Emmy Awards is Saturday Night Live with ninety awards.

Other shows that also did exceptionally well were The Bear with twenty-three nominations and eleven wins, Only Murders in the Building with twenty-one nominations and three wins, True Detective: Night Country with nineteen nominations and one win, The Crown with eighteen nominations and three wins, Saturday Night Live with seventeen nominations and seven wins, Hacks with sixteen nominations and three wins, and Fallout, The Morning Show, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith with sixteen nominations and two wins. These shows were the top shows of the year and received the most nominations. Along with all of these remarkable shows, there were also many other shows that got nominations and awards such as Reservation Dogs, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Palm Royale, Abbott Elementary, What We Do in the Shadows, Hijack, Slow Horses, The MorningShow, Gilded Age, Slow Horses, Lessons in Chemistry, Fargo, Baby Reindeer, Under the Bridge, Ripley, Feud: Capote vs The Swans, and many, many more.
