This issue’s Student Artist Spotlight is on Emma Devine ’26. Emma has dedicated herself to art throughout her Marymount Career. Over the summer, Emma attended a UCLA Art Class where she learned several new types of art she never did before. She created a diptych, an artwork consisting of two pieces that together make a single art piece, about herself for one assignment stating, “I had never done something like that before. It was interesting to see the pieces come together.” She describes her diptych as a self-portrait of herself throughout her life, with the waves crashing against her present self.
While at Marymount, she has also created posters for the Marymount Players such as the Matilda poster last year and the Trap poster this year. She said, “I had a lot of fun creating the posters and getting to be a part of the shows.” In the future, Emma wants to pursue graphic design or animation in college. Right now, Emma likes to experiment with watercolors and digital art to paint landscapes. She is inspired by an artist, Anne Packard, an artist from Cape Cod who focuses on painting oceanic landscapes. Emma hopes to continue doing art and encourages others to follow their passion as well.
