The Marymount Players have worked this entire semester tirelessly to produce a wonderful show. The Marymount Players put on their production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream from November 7th to November 9th. Approximately one and a half hours long, the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was constantly exciting and overall a lovely show.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows lovers, royals, fairies, and mechanicals. It was so entertaining to watch, full of twists and surprises, due to a mischievous fairy duo finding a love potion. This results in a beautiful fairy falling in love with a donkey and confusion between teenage lovers. Ultimately, all of the characters come together to celebrate a wondrous wedding. One of my favorite parts of the show was the dances! The dances within the play were such fun scenes, full of laughter. The use of music such as “Marry You” by Bruno Mars was a perfect addition to the upbeat choreography. I specifically loved watching the fairies dance to “Fantasy” by Mariah Carey.

The climax of the story was the intense fight between the lovers. The four lovers each portrayed this scene wonderfully. The constant back and forth arguing was extreme yet cohesive. This scene was full of so many emotions: anger, happiness, and sadness. This scene was overall portrayed wonderfully with genuine emotion.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream illustrates the complexity of love through the connection of the royals, friendship among the lovers, and the bonds of the mechanicals. Overall, this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was beautifully done. Congratulations to all of the Marymount Players, both the actors and crew, for the outstanding performance. I can’t wait to watch the spring musical, Hadestown!
