Dodgers Domination

As of 12 October 2022, the Los Angeles Dodgers are tied 1-1 with the San Diego Padres, leaving fans excited, but also nervous for the next game in the MLB Division Series. Though many are focused on the results of the MLB championship, the Dodgers’ performance this year was very impressive and hard to ignore.

The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated multiple aspects of the MLB this year, but their most significant accomplishment was their 111 wins and 51 losses. These statistics allowed them to clinch the #1 seed in the National League West in the postseason, making it the ninth time in the past ten years. Their wins leave them in a great position for the playoffs and will hopefully guide them to win another championship. Though there were some scary injuries that occurred during the season, as seen with pitcher, Walker Buehler and shortstop, Chris Baylor, the team persevered and continued to perform very well. Some notable players include Max Muncy, Trea Turner, Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor, Trayce Thompson, Tony Gonsolin, Clayton Kershaw, and Julio Urías.

The Dodgers’ did not just lead in their victory statistics, they also dominated the rankings for MLB attendance. Because of Covid-19, fans had to stick to watching baseball on TV or MLB.com in 2020, but as cases died down and mandates started to be removed, fans gradually started to trickle into the stadiums they missed. For the ninth straight season, the LA Dodgers had the most attendance for home games amongst the other 29 teams. To get a sense of how significant Dodger attendance was, journalists and even critics have calculated that the Dodgers Stadium holds an average of around 48,000 fans per game in comparison to the next highest attended stadiums (The Cardinals) which hold around 40,350 fans.

This past year, I have had the amazing opportunity to attend a few Dodger games, and can most definitely support their dominating aspects. For example, almost every game I attended, the Dodgers won and you could physically see that all the seats were taken up. Though the Dodgers’ lost, the fan energy at the Cardinals vs. Dodgers game where Albert Pujols scored his 700th home run was off the charts!

Evidently, the Dodgers have had a great season and continue to put so much effort into the foundation of their team. Let’s wish them luck on their journey to another championship. Go Dodgers!
