Everyone’s everyday schedules and activities are thrown out the door during summer. It is a time to relax, travel to exciting destinations, spend time with friends and family, and do whatever you want. With all that said, it is still important to be active. During the school year, normally you have school sports going on that keep you active, but the summer is 3 months of a break. It is a time to have fun, but it is still important to continue to be active. Don’t let the words “be active” intimidate you into thinking it means going to the gym and doing an intense workout. Especially in the summer, there are so many fun activities you can do that keep your body moving.

A great way to stay active in the summer is to go for a hike or go swimming in the ocean. You can go for a walk in the morning or bike to a cute local brunch spot. Take your dog to the dog park for an afternoon or go for a quick jog. There are lots of fun water sports to try such as paddle boarding, surfing, or even kayaking. It doesn’t have to be all that much. It can be as simple as starting a garden and caring for it. And remember all these activities are so much more fun to do when you are with friends. For example, you could go with friends for a hike and have a picnic at the end or spend a day at the beach together playing beach volleyball. Try new things because you never know, you might just discover a new talent or just a new hobby that you would enjoy spending your time doing.

I remember I went with my friend to a lake up in Idaho one summer. I tried to wake surf for the first time and  was very scared at first, but once I got into the water and tried it out, I loved it. Now I can’t wait to go again. Most would not think wake surfing is a serious way to stay active, but to me it was. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are having fun and moving your body. Be creative! There are so many fun things you can do in the summer. You must remember to hydrate, wear sunscreen, and do something that excites you!
