The 2023 WNBA Playoffs are officially underway! The 2023 season has been a very intense one as teams are neck-in-neck with their rankings, while others were surprisingly knocked out of the competition for the crown. The latter is seen with the Seattle Storm and the Phoenix Mercury: two very strong teams who put their all into the season, but unfortunately, could not make the playoff cut.
The first round of the playoffs included the Las Vegas Aces, New York Liberty, Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings, Atlanta Dream, Minnesota Lynx, Washington Mystics, and Chicago Sky. The first round started the week of September 13th and resulted in some awesome results:
The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Chicago Sky in two straight games, the NY Liberty beat the Washington Mystics in two straight games, and the Dallas Wings took the Atlanta Dream in two games also. The Connecticut Sun and the Minnesota Lynx fought a longer fight as they had to play 3 times, but the Connecticut Sun emerged victorious from this matchup. The four victorious teams have been in the top 4 ever since the start of the season, so it is not a surprise to see them all come closer to the championship.
The semifinal matchups are definitely ones worth watching: Las Vegas Aces vs Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun vs New York Liberty. The Aces and the Sun won the first game in their 5-game series, but as of September 27th, the Aces have won 2 games over the Wings while the Liberty and Sun are tied 1-1.
As of October 11th: The Aces and the Liberty are set for the finals match-up! The Aces have already one AMAZING game 99-82. They play the second game of the series today.
The playoffs are set to end in late October, so it will be very interesting to see who comes out on top. The Aces and the Liberty are the top two teams who are predicted to win, but anything could happen!
