Winter Sports Gear Recommendations

Winter+Sports+Gear+Recommendations

During the winter months, many people stay warm, cozied up by the fireplace with a nice cup of hot cocoa. Then, some do the same after a day of riding on the snowy mountains or gracefully spinning on the ice rink! The top three winter sports are snowboarding, skiing, and figure skating. Here are some of the best pieces of gear you can get for those winter sports.

Snowboarding:

Best overall snowboard: The Lib Tech Apex Golden Orca

Pros:

  • It is the same shape as the Golden Orca, a trusted snowboard for many snowboard enthusiasts
  • It is lightweight, speedy, and responsive
  • The shape provides exceptional moveability while still allowing it to “retain float in deep snow,” according to Outside Magazine

Cons:

  • The price: it is listed at $1,299.99, well over double the average cost of a snowboard
  • It isn’t as “damp” or stable against vibrations when being used in choppy snow

Skiing:

Best overall ski jacket: REI Co-op Powderbound Insulated Jacket

Pros:

  • REI is known to have great quality and long-lasting products
  • Sizes range from XS-3X
  • It has two layers that give warmth, yet are still breathable

Cons:

  • Some reviews say that when washed, the jacket shows some wear around the Velcro
  • Many owners of this jacket say that to keep the zipper from breaking, washing it with the zipper secured is a must

Figure Skating

Best overall Ice Skates: Jackson Ultima – Mystique with Mark II Blade

Pros:

  • The foam-backed tongue provides lots of comfort
  • The sizes range from kids to juniors to adults

Cons:

  • Reviews say that the blade does not come as sharp and preferred so that it may need sharpening
