2024 Superbowl LVIII

2024+Superbowl+LVIII

This year’s Super Bowl has had the most pregame excitement I have ever seen. Maybe it is because you are a Taylor fan, maybe it is because Usher is your favorite performer, or maybe it is because you are a Chiefs or 49ers fan and are excited to see them face again (the last time was the Super Bowl in 2020 when the Chiefs won 31 -20). Whatever the reason, the entire country was buzzing around the game. Let’s break down everything that happened at this year’s Super Bowl; from great plays in the game to all the celebrities watching in the stands, and Usher’s (along with many others) performance, we are gonna cover it all!

Who was there?

There were a lot of celebrities watching from the stands this year and many were featured on the jumbotron. Beyonce, JAY-Z, and their daughters, Blue Ivy (12) and Rumi (6), were present and seen taking pictures on the field. Couple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were watching from a box. Paul Rudd and his son, Jack, took a cute picture on the field wearing Chiefs’ gear. Paul McCartney was in attendance and went to Taylor’s box to say hi. Super Bowl 51 Halftime Show performer, Lady Gaga, was spotted with an amazing bejeweled eye makeup look. Justin and Haley Bieber were in the stands sitting next to long-time friends Kendall, Kim, and Khloe Kardashian. Other celebrities in the house include Mark Wahlberg, Alix Earle with boyfriend, Dolphins wide receiver, Braxton Berrios, country music singer Luke Combs, famous chef Gordon Ramsey, Martha Stewart, talented singer Ariana Grande, the Bailey sisters, and so many more. Basketball stars Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James, with wife Savannah James, hit the game. Taylor Swift brought an entire crew with her after flying back from Japan where she was on tour. She walked in with best friend Blake Lively, friends Miles and Keleigh Teller, and fellow tour performer Ice Spice. Her friend Lana Del Rey was there as well. The whole Kelce family sat in Travis’ box along with Taylor and her friends.

Who performed?

While the Halftime Show is the major event everyone knows about, there were also other performances by superstars. Andra Day gave a powerful performance with the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”After her, Post Malone rocked the stage performing “America the Beautiful” with guitar in hand. Famous country music star and actress, Reba McEntire, did a beautiful job singing the National Anthem before the game started.

The Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance

The start of the show was lights out and then Usher, with a spotlight, was ready to give us the performance of his lifetime. Superstar singer had an amazing setlist that included songs “Caught Up”, “U Don’t Have To Call”, “Superstar”, “Love in This Club”, “Ain’t Got Up” and “My Boo” with Alicia Keys, “Confessions Part II”, “Nice & Slow”, “Burn”, “Bad Girl”, “U Got It Bad”, “OMG”, “Turn It Down for What” which was sung by Lil John, and lastly, “Yeah” with help from Lil John and Ludacris. The entire performance embraced the Las Vegas circus vibe by including circus performers, acrobatics, and an entire roller skating show. His outfits screamed extra which matched his sensual dance moves which got all the moms at home excited. While I personally was not a big fan of the performance, I do think he did a fantastic job.

What happened during the game?

The Captains approached the middle of the field for the coin flips. The 49ers won the flip and requested to get the ball first. Then the game started. Even with lots of backworth in the first quarter, no team had secured any points on the board after the first 15 minutes were up. Travis Kelce was seen getting upset about a fumble on the field and pushed his coach and yelled at him. This controversial moment was addressed by the coach later in the press conference and was laughed off as normal Kelce behavior. Right at the start of the 2nd quarter, the 49ers successfully placed a 55-yard kick and were winning by 3. Moody, the 49ers kicker, made Superbowl history with that kick going down as the farthest successful field goal to date. Then the Chiefs got the ball. They were 10 yards from the touchdown when Paceho dropped the ball and the 49ers recovered it. With the ball back with the 49ers, Brock Prody worked the ball up the field. After an amazing play, Christian McCaffery got the ball and ran it into the endzone. After another successful kick by Moody and the 49ers are up 10 – 0. The Chiefs quickly recovered with a field goal which made the score 10 – 3 at halftime. At the start of the second half, rookie Ji’ayir Brown intercepts a pass, and the ball returns to the 49ers. The Chiefs recover again by getting back the ball and making another field goal which brings the score to 10 – 6 with the 49ers still in the lead. The Chiefs grab a fumble stopped by the 49ers and eventually get their first touchdown. The Chiefs are now in the lead at 13 – 10. In the last quarter, after an amazing catch and run, the 49ers score another touchdown and are back in the lead at 19 – 13. With only a few seconds left, the Chiefs managed to even the score to 19 – 19 after a 29-yard field goal. The game goes into overtime and the 49ers start with the ball. They only get a field goal and the score is 22 – 19. The ball goes to the Chiefs and according to the rules, if they get a touchdown, they win. Patrick Mahomes throws a pass to wide receiver, Hardman Jr., and the game is over. That touchdown gets the Chiefs to win their 4th Super Bowl in their history.

The Aftermath

After the touchdown that ended it all, the Chiefs fans in the stadium and at home roared. As red and gold confetti flew, reporters, friends, and family stormed the field in excitement. This is the Chief’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and tight end, Travis Kelce’s third Super Bowl win. Together, the team has won in 2020, 2023, and 2024, which also means they are currently back-to-back champs. The team owner gives a tear-wrenching speech along with the head coach, Andy Reid. Mahomes says a few heartwarming words which are followed by a loud and rowdy speech by Kelce. Taylor and Travis share hugs and kisses on the field. The night continues when some of the team members, family, friends, and other major celebrities head to the XS Nightclub at the Wynn Las Vegas in the early hours of the morning. Taylor and Travis are seen there dancing and hanging out together. Patrick Mahome’s wife, Brittany, gave Post Malone a Chief’s jacket as he performed on stage at the club. In the following days, Patrick Mahomes rides on the float at the Disneyland Parade to celebrate their win. Many parades follow in Kansas City for the next couple of days. Overall, it is an exciting win and the partying has not stopped.
