As this year winds down and I’ve experienced senior year to its extent, I feel as if I can impress some wisdom upon you all. I have been at Marymount since my freshman year and I remember always thinking about what my life will look like at this time that I am experiencing currently, and have experienced, or rather endured, since August 2021 for my senior year. So with that, here are a few tips and pieces of advice for you all as a senior.

First, have a planner and organized calendar. Yes, this is very basic but crucial. Without a planner and a running to-do list of short-term and long-term assignments, I don’t think I would have been able to keep up as I did. The months go by quickly even when the weeks feel slow. Due dates and deadlines can come quicker than you expect and it doesn’t stop even in the second semester. The anxiety of assignments comes and goes throughout each quarter, mostly towards the end of it, so making sure you are aware and actively setting aside time to work on assignments is essential.

Another tip is to work to have a balanced social life and academic career. Many students get caught up too much on either one or the other. Going out on the weekends is fun, and I encourage you to enjoy your years with your group of friends before dispersing to colleges all over the country. However, do not let that drive you away from being motivated at school. I asked another senior, Kalea King, her thoughts on this and she responded with, “Live Yo’ Life.” I thoroughly agree with this because you should take opportunities that will help you flourish as a person and academically holistically.

With that, enjoy the present because living the high school experience with your friends only happens once, yet also focus on the future: college. Make sure grades are up to standard and expectation. Make goals for yourself and keep to them! For instance, I had a goal for every glass on a minimum grade I will be content with and I worked towards having that grade or above in the class. I find this to be motivating and helped me strive in my classes! Good luck to everyone!
