Activities in Los Angeles to Prepare You for the Holiday Season

Abby McMillan, Features Section Editor

Getting into the holiday spirit is not an issue for teenagers, but growing up in Los Angeles can create challenges. With only a minor change in temperatures and no snow nearby, it can be hard to feel festive. However, we’re here to help you discover just some of LA’s amazing activities to prepare you for the upcoming holiday season.

A couple enjoys a nice skate at LA Kings Holiday Ice.

Nothing screams “Happy Holidays” more than ice-skating around a beautiful Christmas tree. One of the best locations for this activity is the LA Kings Holiday Ice, right outside the Staples Center. Its amazing location makes it the best holiday hot spot for fun and amazing food. By simply showing your ticket stub from ice skating, the LA Kings Holiday Ice also offers discounts at local restaurants for delicious dining, including Flemings, Katsuya, and Lucky Strike. Not only does this activity promote the Holiday spirit, but acts is a great time for the whole family! Go get your tickets and enjoy the festivity up until January!

A family enjoys Universal Studios Grinchmas with the Grinch himself and his trusty sidekick Max.

If you’re looking for some longer-term fun for the whole family, head over to Universal Studios to experience Grinchmas! With cool decorations, activities, and acting, Universal Studios Grinchmas creates a fully immersive experience, transporting you to Christmas at Whoville. Come early to enjoy the activities of the park, and stay late for the holiday festivities, such as the nightly tree lighting and cups of hot cocoa. Watch your bags, though! You never know when the Grinch might strike to steal away Santa’s presents! If you’re looking for a little something more, hang around and enjoy the other holiday specials Universal Studios puts on throughout the park, especially in Harry Potter World, where you can enjoy a nice ButterBeer under the snow-capped Hogsmead.

A snowboarder enjoys the fresh power of Mammoth Mountain.

Looking for a change of scenery to really get you into the holiday spirit? Take a quick trip to Big Bear or Mammoth Mountain for beautiful snow, activities, and of course, skiing and snowboarding. With gorgeous villages, there are plenty of festive activities for the non-adventurous type, like ice skating, a silent disco, and all the holiday shopping you could wish for! However, if you do seek an adventure, both mountains offer a wide variety of trails and run to practice skiing and snowboarding. It is an amazing experience for the entire family, so hit the slopes while the snow is still good!

Although feeling festive for the Holidays seems difficult in warm, sunny Los Angeles, there are plenty of activities to get you into the mood. So, prepare for an awesome holiday season–you won’t even notice the lack of snow or cold!!
