Hello, Sailors! As winter approaches and the weather cools, blue and gray knit sweaters and cardigans have become popular. These are just a few of the items associated with the “preppy” look, also known as the “dark academia” look. But, what is the preppy look? And, most importantly, will it account for the majority of what we see in fashion this winter?

The Preppy style has gained popularity in 2022, thanks in part to many shows depicting school uniforms, such as the recent gossip girl reboot. This style has also gained popularity among many renowned families, including the British royals and the Kennedys. The Preppy fashion style is very similar to our Marymount Uniform. Pleated skirts, black tights, darker-colored blazers, and penny loafers are all examples of “preppy” clothing.

Now while learning about what exactly is the preppy style, and where it gained popularity is interesting and all, but let’s get to the real question…is the preppy style going to continue on into this winter? Well, with shows such as the new Wednesday Addams series where darker preppy styles are being but into the light, and stores such as Reformation and Aritzia pushing out items all heavily associated with the preppy look, I think this style will definitely be seen a lot throughout this winter and early spring!
