As we reflect on the end of our senior year and the past four years at Marymount, we think about how far we have come since the beginning of freshman year. Our freshman year selves were scared of the big changes that high school brought and intimidated by the new uncertainty. Today, we can proudly say that we have accomplished so much that our younger selves could have never imagined. We have all found our places at Marymount through various leadership roles and involvement around campus, and are sure that our 14-year-old selves would be so proud. As we say our final goodbyes, we want to thank everyone who has been so supportive of our journeys at Marymount.
Fulfilling the roles as Co-Editors-In-Chief and Section Editors for The Anchor has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences for all of us, to which we are forever grateful. We have gained confidence in our writing ability, strengthened our organizational skills, and learned how to operate in a work environment. We truly could not have done it all without the support of our mentors and staff.
To our predecessor, Kate: Thank you so much for showing us what it means to be a strong leader. We learned so much from your guidance and are so grateful for your openness and willingness to answer our questions and help the staff. Thank you for your confidence in us to carry on the role of EIC in our senior year.
To Dr. Bray-Kress: Thank you so much for believing in us and supporting us this year. Stepping into this role this year, you were the best moderator we could have asked for and your guidance and trust in us as EICs meant the world.
To our fellow Section Editors: Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication to The Anchor this year. We know how difficult it is balancing school and extracurriculars on top of creating story ideas, editing, and doing page design, but your drive and commitment really shines through in all of the amazing stories you helped to produce this year. We are so proud of you all and can’t wait to see what next year holds for the future of The Anchor.
To our Staff Writers: Thank you so much for displaying your passion for writing through your articles. Your commitment to creating thorough, thoughtful work is inspiring and we hope you continue to write next year.
Additionally, we would like to share some pieces of advice with the future members of the Editorial Board.
To the new Editors-In-Chief: The task of Editor-In-Chief can seem daunting, but the work you will put in next year is so rewarding. Leading such a smart, driven staff full of talented writers is an amazing opportunity and seeing them put forth their best effort into every story is inspiring. Make sure to plan ahead all of your issues, meetings, and emails and communicate with your moderator. Getting ahead will be lifesaving for sure. Also, we encourage you to act as a support system for your team. The whole staff looks up to you as leaders and will come to you for advice and questions. We can’t wait to see all you accomplish next year!
To the new Section Editors: Have fun with this position! You will get to come up with so many creative story ideas and collaborate with your staff writers. Make sure to stay organized and communicate with your staff writers. Also, if you are ever confused or have questions, your EICs will be there for you to help.
It has been an honor serving as your Editors-In-Chief this year and we are so grateful for everything The Anchor has done for us these past four years. We are sad to leave, but are also incredibly excited to see what next year has in store for the new Editorial Board and Staff. We hope that The Anchor continues to serve as an outlet for Marymount students to display their creativity and gain confidence in themselves and their writing. We will all miss Marymount and are deeply grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Farewell Anchor!
