Microtrends: What are they? Microtrends are short-lived trends that change rapidly and come and go often. Starting in 2025, some of the main microtrends are Labubus, 67, and Dubai chocolate. Just these three trends have quickly taken over the internet and spread to become worldwide trends just within the span of a year.

Labubus are a very controversial subject. Many people throughout the world either love them or really hate them. Labubus originally started in Hong Kong in 2015 but only recently became popular. Most of the appeal toward Labubus is the excitement of opening the blind box. It is a fun and thrilling experience to tear open that tab on the box and open it to find a furry keychain waiting inside. Aside from the excitement of labubus, most people find their appearance disturbing. Labubus have large bulging eyes and sharp teeth, which can be displeasing. On the other hand, they are small and fluffy, which can be viewed as cute rather than scary. Not only are labubus fun to open, but they are also very valuable. Ever since their rise to popularity, the prices and rarity of them have shot up. They are really hard to find, and when you do, there is a chance of pulling a secret one. On TikTok, there is a popular meme of a girl opening up a 24-karat golden labubu. In the video, she makes it seem like she got an exclusive labubu when, in reality, she painted it gold.

Even though labubus are very popular, another trend that has taken over the internet is Dubai chocolate. Dubai chocolate is a treat that originated in Dubai. It is not your average chocolate bar. Inside of solid chocolate, it is filled with kunafa and pistachio cream. These two ingredients really enhance the recipe, giving it a rich flavor. This recipe became popular originally for its unique texture. Recently, many celebrities and social media stars like Billie Eilish and Kim Kardashian have been seen eating it. Another reason why it’s popular is its auditory appeal. When you break into the bar and bite it, there is a satisfying crunch sound, which is perfect for ASMR.

The last and most popular of the three microtrends is 67. This trend is very puzzling. Nobody really knows what 67 means and how to properly use it, but we do know where it came from. The term 67 came from the song Doot Doot by Skrilla and refers to a basketball player, LaMelo Ball. This phrase is particularly confusing because the number is used to mean many different things. Some people will just throw the word out there randomly, but others will refer to height, grades, counting, and more. All in all, microtrends are very fast-growing and popularize quickly, yet we still don’t fully understand them.
