Does the idea of drinking mango smoothies out of a light bulb excite you? What about eating a Japanese delicacy that literally looks like a giant drop of water? If you are screaming, “YES!” to these questions, you need to immediately head over to a night market.

A night market is a cluster of open-air street vendors where visitors can shop, eat, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. They are popular in East and Southeast Asia and known to be bubbling with cultural goods and food. For the lucky residents of Los Angeles, there are multiple night market locations nearby. Orange County boasts a large-scale night market during the summer and early fall of every year. Just this year, Koreatown also began hosting its own, smaller version. Lastly, the 626 Night Market, located in Arcadia, is the first and largest night market in the United States. All locations feature unique and delicious food, ranging from ramen burgers to rice bears.

Recently, I decided to visit the Koreatown Night Market, relocated near the Staples Center. The ambience featured flashing lights, the mouthwatering smell of Korean barbeque, and booming music; it was everything I had ever dreamed of. Amongst the many delightful food vendors, my absolute favorite was Norigami, famous for its sushi nori “tacos.” The shell was made of crispy seaweed tempura with sushi, rice, and avocados carefully stacked inside. It was life-changing!

If you love to try new, tasty, and Instagram-worthy food, I strongly recommend checking out a night market. Remember, these night markets aren’t around all the time, so make sure to check the dates beforehand!
