Now that the time of online school is over, it is time to return to

on-campus learning with your friends!

Though the relaxing days of sleeping in late and starting school in your pajamas have come to an end, that doesn’t mean you have to come back in an unfavorable mood.

In order to start the school year off on the right foot, here are some easy tips for arriving with the proper mindset and making this your best academic year yet!

  • Set Up a Routine

An organized student is a good student, and organization is essential for a successful start to the school year. There are many methods to improve your organizational skills, so here are a few suggestions:

– Make sure your backpack is packed with everything you’ll need for the next day by setting aside some time in the evening.

– Get yourself a diary or a notepad to keep track of your assignments, so you don’t forget an assignment or an exam.

– Prepare your uniform the night before so you don’t have to rush around at 6 a.m. looking for socks or a hair tie.

  • Start a Planner

Following on from organization, you must also ensure that you organize your time. Make a schedule of all your classes, including when and where they will be held, and keep it somewhere you will be able to access it during the day.  This will ensure that you arrive to class on time, that you keep track of your homework, and that you remember what you need to bring to school the next day!

When you’re at home, you might also make a schedule or calendar. Divide a sheet of paper or a notebook into sections and write down the times you are in school or participating in an extracurricular activity in each section. Make sure your schedule is visible so you don’t forget anything and can keep on schedule, like on your desk or nightstand. Remember to schedule time to complete your homework, as well as time to do activities you enjoy, such as sitting on your bed and reading a book.

  • Get Involved in a Club or Sport

The optimum time to discover new interests is at the start of the school year. Once a student has decided what activities and organizations to participate in, the next step is to figure out how to get active in those activities and organizations. Students who didn’t enjoy what they were doing last year should try something new this year. Experiment with new ideas. It’s impossible to tell if you like something, unless you try it.

  • Keep on Top of Your Work

Don’t procrastinate. It’s critical to stay on top of your work if you want to have a successful school year. Make sure you finish all of your homework on time – it’s a good idea to attempt to finish your homework the night it’s due if possible. This ensures that the work never appears to pile up into an insurmountable mountain of algebra and Shakespeare essays.

If a concept is difficult for you, go over it after school and truly attempt to comprehend it. This will ensure that you do not fall behind and that you are able to keep up with all of the new material that your teachers will be bombarding you with!

  • Have a Designated Workspace

Having a dedicated space for you and your work reduces the number of new distractions that can arise from changing locations. I used to work with other people, and I was usually distracted, whether I was studying or listening to music in the background. My work ethic improved after I switched to a quiet desk. I’m able to concentrate for longer periods of time now. The goal of a workstation is to assist you keep as much attention and organization as you need for success and productivity.

  • Set a Reasonable Goal for the Year

Setting a plan for success so that you can gain the necessary academic skills is critical to enhancing your student skills. Try not to take on more than you can handle because it will accumulate to become very stressful.

Difference between reasonable and unreasonable academic goals:

Unreasonable Goals Reasonable Goals
Get all A’s the entire school year Strive to improve your grade by get A’s and B’s
Be the president of a club Join a club and make efforts to start your own
Join all the hardest classes Take on classes you can handle with your other activities

  • Maintain a Positive Attitude

The most important piece of advice I can give for getting the school year off to a good start is to have a happy attitude. This entails taking care of your mental health and ensuring that your physical and mental health are treated equally. You would rest your leg if it pained, so you should do the same with your mental health!

Don’t let schoolwork and other activities overwhelm you; make sure you get enough sleep and arrange time for the activities you enjoy. Allow yourself a rest in the evening and try to get 8 hours of sleep per night. You may join an after-school activity, watch TV, or read a book that has nothing to do with education.

Have a great academic school year!!
