As many of us Sailors are involved in the variety of sports offered on campus, it is immensely important to stretch before and after practices and games. This is necessary for a variety of reasons, one being that it keeps our muscles healthy and flexible, preventing them from tightening and shortening. In addition, it also reduces the risk of injury, such as pulling muscles, sprains, and joint injuries. It is essential to stretch all muscles, but the most important are the lower extremities, which include calves, hamstrings, quads, and hip flexors. These muscles should be stretched especially as they are important for mobility purposes. It is also key that stretching becomes a ritual, as it won’t become effective overnight. Ultimately, stretching properly requires remaining consistent and committed.

In conclusion, it is understandable that we love the thrill and excitement of playing our sport of choice, however, it is crucial that we have this same mentality toward stretching for our health and overall well-being. Go get them Sailors but don’t forget to stretch!
