Finals season is coming up quickly. This can be a stressful time for every Sailor, but there are multiple things you can do to try and reduce or manage your stress while studying.
- Manage your time wisely! Especially when studying for multiple finals, spacing out your studying can be super helpful. You can try allotting certain amounts of time for each subject so you aren’t overwhelmed with work. Also, remember to use your flex period and office hours time productively! These periods are a great block of time during the day that you can use for studying.
- Use online tools to help you study! One example of this is Quizlet, an online flashcard-making program. I love to use Quizlet to help me with memorization and retention of information.
- Ask for help! This can be from a friend in your class or a teacher. If you’re studying and find you don’t understand a topic, ask for clarification. Going to your teachers during office hours can also help you to make sure you actually understand topics like math problems and historical events.
- Change your environment! It’s easy to get off track if you’re studying in a spot where there are lots of people or lots of other distracting things. If you find you aren’t being productive in one spot, always feel free to try somewhere else. Marymount’s campus has loads of spots that you can use to study, like the DRC, dining room, or your class courtyard.
- Take a study break! Sometimes taking a break from studying can really help you destress, especially after long periods of time. You can take a walk outside, have a snack, chat with a friend, or do anything else that can help you momentarily take your mind off your stress.
Hopefully, students can implement some of these strategies into their studying routine to try and bring down their stress levels. Remember to work hard, but also take time for yourself. Good luck!
