Is Pumpkin Spice Overrated?

Lulu Lavia, Staff writer

During the fall season, you can find pumpkin spice everywhere. From bagels to cereal to baked goods to drinks, you can’t get away from it. Companies take full advantage of the season and market pumpkin spice in everything imaginable. But is it overdone? Is all the excitement around pumpkin spice overrated? Are people sick of this overhyped flavor?

In my opinion, pumpkin spice is not overrated! As a girl who lives in Southern California, I don’t get to experience the conventional fall season most people think of. While a lot of places enjoy bright-colored leaves, cold weather, and cozying up in jackets and boots, however, people who live in California get 85-degree days and tank tops. I think this is why I love having pumpkin spice in my life, once October 1st hits.

I immediately get a jolt of excitement when I see pumpkin-spiced oatmeal, pumpkin-spiced frappucinos, or pumpkin-spiced frosted cookies line the shelves. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons, but pumpkin spice is a big contributor. When you go into stores, keep an eye out for those spiced treats because once fall is gone, you will have to wait until next year.
