New Year’s Resolutions have been around dating back to circa 2000s BC with the Ancient Babylonians, who asked their gods for a good year. Then the Romans looked back with ideas of self-improvement for the New Year. This tradition continues today worldwide. Marymount students have a lot of New Year’s Resolutions in common with each other. Out of the interviewees, 4 of them said to drink more water and five of them expressed a desire to read more. Lulu Lavia ‘26 had a New Year’s resolution last year to read 100 books, and she has completed this goal. This year she is taking it to the next level, and she is hoping to read 110 books. Another common resolution is to snack less which 4 juniors said. Whether it is waking up earlier in the morning, getting more sleep, hydrating more, more exercise, or reading, the Marymount community has many New Year’s resolutions, all with determination and ambition, striving to be their best selves.
