Sailors on the Golfing Greens

Starting each tournament with a positive attitude, a team prayer, and a cheer, the Sailor Golfers, Kristen Soh ’16, Julia Burgess ’16, Chloe Shaw ’17, Aly Isaak ’15, Maggie Morrison ’15, Erin Argano ’15, and Amy Monzon ’14, make a fantastic team. With co-captains Amy and Erin and Coaches Ken Knott and Eddie Rosenberg leading the team, the sailors have had solid performances throughout the season, including an outstanding win against Westridge School with a score of 261-266. As a beginning golfer, freshman Chloe Shaw impressed everyone with her skill when shooting 62 against Notre Dame. Kristen Soh also had an amazing performance against Notre Dame, shooting one under par. At the Optimist Tournament, Kristen finished 6th place individually, and the Sailors finished strong in 14th place out of 28 teams. The Sailors came close to the defending CIF Champions, Notre Dame High School, but lost 255-209. Nevertheless, the Sailors have had an outstanding golf season.

Kristen Soh, a prominent leader of the golf team, gave her opinion on the team and the sport in an interview:

Q: Why did you choose to play golf?

A: Well it seemed like an easy sport to be good at, and with the influence of my parents, I eventually took it on.

Q: What is your personal best?

A: Two under for 18

Q: What is a downside to golf?

A: It get can very frustrating and stressful because it’s almost impossible to have what you would consider a perfect round because you always feel like you could’ve done better.

Q: What is the best part of golf?

A: It is a very social game and this gives me the opportunity to meet more people that have the same interest as me.

Q: Something interesting about golf that outsiders that don’t play wouldn’t know?

A: It is actually a greatly recognized sport! Not only do you walk for 5 hours, but hitting a ball perfectly requires a lot of accuracy, patience, focus, and practice. Most of the time the ball doesn’t even go where I want it to. Golf is a game of misses and a good golfer is judged based on how good their misses are.

The Sailors have consistently put their best foot forward on the golf course. So far, they have had one win and six losses, and we know that their hard work will pay off in their upcoming tournaments. Go Sailors!
