In 2023, wildfires spread throughout Maui, causing monumental loss and devastating heartbreak, and the community is still recovering today. These fires destroyed thousands of buildings and killed over 100 people. It was a tragedy that affected many people throughout Hawaii. After this disaster, many students all over the globe came together to help Maui. They turned their grief into action.

One example of this is the way in which students came together to advocate for legislation to support Maui and create a better environment with fewer emissions, addressing climate change. Also, many teenagers have formed activism groups to spread awareness about climate change and help those affected by the fires.
A lot of students have also been able to get involved in activism by volunteering. These students have come together, creating fundraisers such as clothing drives and money-raising events to help rebuild Hawaii. At the University of Hawaii, there’s also been a lot of student activism, and activist groups have formed to help Hawaii after the fires.
Although we may not be directly impacted, we can still use our voice to fight for activism here. We can all get involved by staying educated and educating our friends and family about climate change. We can also get involved with local organizations or create our own club or organization at Marymount to help those in Maui. We all have a voice, and we should use it to help fight for change.
