As finals week approaches, it can be very daunting for students. Sometimes, it feels overwhelming and impossible, but following these tips will help you feel confident and prepared.
Tip 1: Start Early
The most essential step in preparing for finals is to start early. Most of us have fallen victim to procrastination. If you can start early, you will learn the material better and have access to other resources when you are struggling.
Tip 2: Ask for help
Asking for help can sometimes feel scary, but your teachers want you to do well and understand the materials. Attending their office hours and asking questions will improve your score. If you can show your teachers that you are working hard, they will be able to help you, and you will form a stronger relationship with them. Another resource that the school offers is the writing center. The writing center is the perfect place to go when you need help with your English essays. The students give great tips and have already taken the class you are in, so they are a good resource to see before you talk to your teacher.
Tip 3: A good study space
Everyone has their learning style and needs regarding a study space. Some people need silence, some need music, and some need background noise. Learn what helps you work the best, and remember your study styles can change based on the subject. For example, I need silence when studying history, but when studying science, I need music. Also, put your phone away when you study. When your phone is nearby, it leads to many distractions, so put it in another room or at least silence it. Also, it helps students study in different places like cafes.
Tip 4: Take breaks
This is probably the last advice you want to give, but remember, you can not learn everything in one day. Studying takes time. During finals week, if you lock yourself in your room and study nonstop, you will feel very burnt out. I recommend taking a break every hour, getting a snack, or calling a friend on the phone. These little breaks help me refocus and stay motivated.
Tip 5: Stay organized
Organization is key. This may seem obvious advice, but make a study plan and organize your resources.
Finals may feel super overwhelming, but if you follow these tips, you can confidently complete them. Good luck!!!
