Summer break isn’t just a time to rest. Many students take this free time as an opportunity to branch out and discover new places beyond LA. Many of our students take these two months to attend sleepaway camp, visit family, explore new cultures, and encounter new experiences. Marymount students this summer took excursions to wonderful destinations all around the world; a couple of the top destinations include Mallorca, Sea Island, Montauk, and Cabo.
Mexico
From the forests of the Yucatan Peninsula to the sandy beaches of Punta Mita, Mexico is a relatively accessible hotspot, where visitors can practice their Spanish, discover new foods, and swim in some of the most beautiful parts of the Pacific Ocean. This summer, Madeline S. ‘28 took a family excursion

to the energetic Cabo San Lucas. Although this city offers lively bars, clubs, and busy beaches, she was still able to enjoy a relaxing vacation, complete with tanning and swimming in the ocean. One day, her family took a boat out into the ocean to go fishing and swim in the vibrant coral reefs. Thankfully, she did not run into a humpback or grey whale, which tend to migrate along this coast, providing the tourist attraction of whale watching. Many other beaches that draw outsiders include Playa El Médano, Chileno Bay, Santa Maria Bay, and, of course, the iconic Lover’s Beach that requires a jump into a water taxi. Apart from snorkeling, other outside activities in Cabo include sunset cruises, jet skiing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Despite the many outside points of interest, Cabo is home to tons of Top Luxury and Flagship hotels that offer multiple amenities, such as spas and gyms that offer yoga and workout classes.
East Coast
North of Mexico, our sailors traveled to many places in the United States, including Sea Island, Georgia, and Montauk, New York. Although they are in the United States, these spectacular sights provided a very nice break from the West Coast.

Kate W. ‘28 traveled over to the beautiful Sea Island, Georgia, where she enjoyed dips into the pool, biking around the neighborhood, and the friendliness of locals. This unique location tends to be a hidden flashpoint centered around an amazing resort on the Atlantic Coast that offers wetland fishing and beautiful landscapes. Flowers during the summer season deliver an amazing scent throughout the area. Further North of Georgia, students took visits to Montauk, New York, a part of the Hamptons, a collection of affluent seaside communities on the South Fork of eastern Long Island. This area has pristine beaches, luxury estates with many large houses, fine dining, and exclusive events like the Hampton Classic horse show. Many people also travel to this destination for clout since it is highly popular among the social media world.
Spain
Across the world, this summer, Sophomore Vivienne O. took an extravagant stop in Mallorca, Spain, to attend the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy.

Not only did this experience improve her tennis skills, but it also grew her independence, Spanish speaking skills, and provided her with international friends. After an amazing first year in Summer 2024, Vivienne returned to the academy this summer and could not have had a better experience. Along with the intense training in hot conditions, every day she was brought off campus to the beaches of Mallorca to enjoy the stunning views and the refreshing sea. During her week at the camp, she met many new friends from all over the world, including places like Dubai, Brazil, Great Britain, Italy, and Russia.
Whether students traveled to the Eastern Hemisphere or down to San Diego, our sailor sisters made the best out of every moment during their summer vacations. Taking a break from school, especially to discover new places and learn about the different ways people live, fosters personal growth.
