Cap council is made up of students who are truly dedicated to the arts at Marymount. Many of these students are in multiple disciplines and divide up their time to succeed in all of them. CAP council sets up thought talks, parties, and shows so everyone can enjoy the performing arts even if they aren’t directly involved. Sydney Anderson currently is president of CAP council and has been leading with ease, and Carly Crane co-leads CAP council as its vice president. The group is led by Ms. Robinson who is the dance teacher, and she is also a great support to all of CAP and especially to CAP council members. She makes sure CAP council is always looking ahead for their next events while still allowing students to take the lead. CAP council is the basis of CAP and makes sure that everyone is supported and learning.

Each Monday this group meets and work collaboratively while all having important roles. There are many roles in CAP, led by Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. The Developmental Committee creates ideas, educates the community on the happenings of CAP, and aim to increase interdisciplinary collaborations. The Social and Event Committee works on creating fun activities and events based around building a community. The Communication Committee keeps the line of communication flowing between PA faculty, CAP Council and all CAP members as well as being responsible for performance flyers and weekly emails. PR chairs speak each Monday at Community and are in charge of keeping the whole school informed of events and upcoming shows. The Secretary sets an example of being sincere in all they write and promote on behalf of CAP, and they write notes for each meeting. The Vice President is the right hand of the president and organizes and keeps everything in order. The President is the leader of CAP council, the driving force behind CAP who keeps the CAP boat moving from the student perspective. There are also representatives of each discipline who are members of CAP council; they can answer any question about their discipline and are very informative. Take any of these roles out of CAP council, and it would be a very different experience as each has such an integral role in making CAP run.
Most recently CAP council have hosted a series of thought talks called Industry Insiders. These thought

talks have been aimed at informing students about careers in performing arts. There have already been two talks, the first about the music industry where Lance Bass (a singer), Tal Fox (a vocal coach), and Spring Aspers (president of Sony Music group) gave insight of what working in the industry is like. It was incredibly insightful and led to great conversation. There was then the dance talk which consisted of dancer and choreographer George Lawrence, and dancer, actress, producer, and writer Kenna Wright. Finally there was the film on Industry Insiders, which had Wendy O’Brien — Emmy Award-Winning Casting Director, Toks Olagundoye — Actor, Rob Tokarz — Emmy Award-Nominated Set Designer, and Cat Gannon-Tokarz — Costume Designer. Overall all of talks were an extreme success with both teachers and students learning new

information.
CAP council is also responsible for throwing parties for all holidays. Each has a fun activity such as decorating pumpkins, a hot chocolate bar, karaoke, and valentines themed coloring. Each fosters new friendships and everyone comes together for a good time and for an overall love of the performing arts. There is also the end of year CAP party which has even bigger games and prizes.

Without CAP council, the performing arts department would not exist as we know it. CAP would also not be possible without our fantastic performing arts teachers who dedicate so much time to students and go above and beyond to create a welcoming environment while also producing incredible shows, numbers, and performances that are unforgettable. CAP is one of the most important parts of my own time at Marymount and I am on CAP council and can attest for the amazing things that CAP council does. I am involved in multiple disciplines as well and it has shaped my time at Marymount in amazing ways. Please get involved in CAP or just show up to shows and support everyone because it means so much to the people who plan these events and to the people performing in them.
