Anna Karenina is an Oscar-nominated movie based on the Russian novel of the same name. It is a tragic story of societal roles, love, adultery, and loss. The protagonist, Anna Karenina, played by Keira Knightly, has an affair with soldier and nobleman Vronsky (Aaron Tyler-Johnson). The movie follows Anna’s life as she quickly declines in social stature and gives up the dear necessities that were once part of her elegant past. She sacrifices her children, respect, and high social standing.

In the upcoming Academy Awards, Anna Karenina is likely to prevail in the categories of Production Design and Costume Design. Watching the shift in scenes is like watching a shift in the props and scenery of a theater production. This is possibly remarking on the society in which the characters live, a Russian aristocracy full of princesses and princes. Every motion and word is part of an elegant, polite, and flawless production, only made better by the beautiful costumes.

Anna Karenina is a great movie, but it is also has an interesting and captivating plot. For anyone who has a hunger for a good romantic story, Anna Karenina is for you. There is a risky couple that breaks the rules to be together and a sweet, innocent, couple that you will be rooting for the whole time. It is shocking when Anna professes to her husband that she is in love with another man. And there is tragedy when Anna gives up her children, her sanity, and ultimately her life. There is also heartbreak as Levin’s proposal to the love of his life, Kitty, is declined. But don’t worry, their relationship will grow and their romance will warm your heart.

Anna Karenina is a great movie, and I definitely recommend it.
