We are extremely blessed to be living in Los Angeles, one of the most culturally diverse and wonderful places in the world. Everyone would greatly benefit from becoming “tourists” of their own city and exploring the great culture that Los Angeles has to offer. LA is home to amazing and highly popular art museums such as The Los Angles County Museum of Art, The Getty and The Hammer Museum. These museums feature breathtaking exhibits that are constantly changing. As well as its interesting art museums, Los Angeles currently has a new exhibit featuring the costumes made from Oscar award winning movies.

A day spent visiting LACMA is never a day wasted. It has amazing bookstores, coffee shops, and, most importantly, beautiful and incredibly interesting art exhibits. LACMA features artwork from all over the world, created during all different time periods in order to teach about history and geography and thus, successfully embodying the diverse population of Los Angeles. Currently, LACMA has a variety of exhibits, from “Haunted Screen: German Cinema in the 1920s to “Variations: Conversations In and Around Abstract Painting.” “Haunted Screens: German Cinema In The 1920s” holds over 150 drawings, manuscripts, posters, and set models from the masterpieces of German Expressionist cinema. “Variations: Conversations In and Around Abstract Painting” features and celebrates the magnificence and creativity of abstract art.

Another widely popular museum you should definitely visit is the Getty Museum. With its remarkable architecture and location overlooking LA, the museum itself is a piece of art. The Getty works to conserve, study, and interpret important artistic works. It holds artwork from master artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. Some exhibits currently being presented there are “Yvonne Rainer: Dances and Films” and “ In Focus: Tokyo.” The Yvonne Rainer exhibit shows films of choreography by Yvonne Rainer, connecting visual art and movement. “In Focus: Tokyo” shows photography to capture the distinctive and powerful culture of the noteworthy city of Tokyo. Spending a day at the Getty will greatly help one gain essential art history knowledge as well as a better understanding of world culture.

Last, but definitely not least, a new exhibit presented and organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum of London is the Hollywood Costume Exhibit. This exhibit is being presented at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. It showcases more than 150 costumes that appeared in incredibly famous Hollywood films like Dallas Buyers Club, The Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby, Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle and many more. This exhibit reveals the importance of costume design to successfully portray a story. Because of the importance of the movie industry in our very own city, it is interesting to have knowledge about all aspects of filmmaking.

Overall, attending any of these museums will broaden your worldview, cultural knowledge, and artistic understanding, while also allowing for a fun-filled day!
