The Sailor golf team gave their best effort this 2015-fall season. The season started off slow with a loss against Alemany in a Mission League Match. However, the team was able to step it up at the Optimist Tournament. Successfully playing better than 7-time champions, NDHS, the Sailors finished with a tie for 9th place. Co-captain Kristen Soh ’16, placed 8th out of 40 girls. Congrats K-Soh!

Our Sailors worked hard as seen by Sloane Leipzig ’17 and Kristen, who both advanced to League Finals last October 22. The Varsity team successfully ended the League Prelims in 5th out of the 8 teams in Mission League. Sloane and Kristen played exceptionally well; Kristen was even able to advance to the Individual Regionals.

Throughout the season, all Sailor golf members believe they have grown closer as a team and really developed. Sydney Dutton ’18 says she’s proud of the two freshmen players who greatly improved throughout the season. The senior golf members, Kristen and Julia Burgess, even gave their own words of wisdom for next year’s team:

“Don’t be so focused on immediate results; I know it’s so easy to get down on yourself for not shooting the scores you want, but golf demands patience. You’ll get there, but not as quickly as you’d like. Just because you had a bad day does not mean you’re a bad golfer! Learn from your mistakes, keep working on your game, and stay positive!!”

“Golf is about having fun. Disregard those who are too serious. Golf is supposed to be enjoyed. Have fun, laugh at your stupid shots, watch out for squirrels, and sing louder in the car.”

                                                                                    Julia Burgess ’16

Congratulations on your good season, Sailors!
