On the evening of October 17th, Pavilion was alive with handmade posters, blue and white streamers, large assortments of balloons, and excited fans in honor of the annual “Senior Night.” This night has been a long held tradition here at Marymount, designated to honor the hard work of the senior players.

The spirit of the junior varsity and freshman teams was undeniable that night as they had just defeated the visiting Notre Dame Knights. I was a part of the freshman volleyball team, and my teammates and I were ecstatically awaiting the beginning of the varsity match, as we loved cheering on our favorite senior players.

Our seniors, Caitlin Keefe, Michaela Keefe, Charlie Robinson, Hanna Klein, Morgan Williams, Lauren Gurbach, Emily Newberry, and Sarah McRoskey, warmed up in typical sailor fashion, intimidating the opponents and getting hyped. Soon after the warm-up completed, head coach Cari Klein welcomed the seniors onto the court with kind words about their achievements and individuality. Each girl was given a personalized teddy bear and bouquet of flowers. The starting lineup then confidently took the court, ready to compete against the challenging Notre Dame Knights.

The game commenced with kills from senior star outside hitter Caitlin Keefe. Lauren Gurbach, an unstoppable libero in the back row, aggressively defended the quick offense of the Notre Dame hitters and blockers. Hanna Klein, always a key to the team’s success, ran the offense with precise sets and smart decisions. Michaela Keefe, although injured for most of the season, proceeded to step onto the court to slam hits to the opposing side. Sarah McRoskey, dominated in the back row and from the service line with competitiveness and spirit. Emily Newberry and Morgan Williams discouraged the Knights with their bullet serves and impressive digs. Lastly, but certainly not least, Charlie Robinson controlled the front row with game changing blocks and numerous kills.

Our seniors swept the match within three games to perfect their special night. After the game was finished, the junior varsity team performed a creative dance number for the seniors, resulting in endless laughter and cheers from all of the supportive fans. It was a night to remember for the seniors, and I know each and every one of them will continue to achieve great things in the future. Congratulations seniors!!
